This is a huge loss. I so enjoyed all Dennis’ postings. Please accept my deepest condolences. I lived in the Yukon and Alaska for 40 years, snd each time a new posting came up I read it with great interest and memoriesThere is no replacing him.
Did someone from your HQs try to email me today, 11/29/21? I lost the email.
My interest in the route was triggered in 1956 when driving the AlCan highway with a film crew,
and one night at the base of Kluane near
SILVER CITY (and Soldier Summit) I bunked down in the gravel of a barely ‘living’ old garage- like structure next to the strip.
On same trip we camped near McCrea,
So of Whitehorse, in a motor pool area
where the heavy timber track over a grease
pit was yet intact.
Since then have used coordinates to find
remains/traces of nearly all of the emergency
strips using Google Earth.
In addition, Minneapolis, where I live, was –
I believe – the base of the route before it
moved to (Great Falls??). Montana.
